Review & Giveaway: Perricone MD Advanced Face Firming Activator

November 4, 2009 by
Filed under giveaway, Reviews, Skin Care

For about the past month, through the courtesy of Perricone, I have been using Perricone MD’s Advanced Face Firming Activator. I’d have to say that I’m actually really impressed by it. Normally I’m skeptical of any sort of skin care product and will just use whatever I can get for the moment as long as it doesn’t make my face oily.

This product has actually done something for me that I’ve noticed unlike other skin care products. I only use it once a day (as per the directions), typically in the morning underneath my makeup or alone. It is not oily at all on my face (I have combination oily skin in the summer, and combination dry during the cooler months) and applies very smoothly. I have noticed that it makes my pores appear smaller and also softens the fine lines around my eye area (they’re very fine but noticeable to me) as well as the fine lines I have on my forehead. I also noticed that it tend to help my foundation apply better and keeps it from smearing and smudging over my face. I have some slight redness on my cheeks and AFFA also helps to tone down the redness. The only thing I’m not too fond of when it comes to this product is the scent. When I first pumped out the product, I noticed it had a nice floral scent to it. Once I applied it though, I noticed that I could definitely smell the omega-3 oils in the product (omega-3 oils are typically found in fish such as tuna, salmon, and halibut to name a few). However, I got used to the aroma and now I don’t even notice it all that much.

THE PROS
- Lightweight. Not oily or greasy.
- Reduces the size of my pores.
- Absorbs quickly into skin.
- Evens discoloration in skin.
- Pump that comes with the bottle doesn’t pump out a lot of product. (Pro for me, cause then I’m not using too much and wasting the product).

THE CONS
- Weird omega-3 scent (but like I said, the more often you wear it, the less you notice it).
- The price tag. $120 is a lot to spend…but I have a fear that I may be hooked on this product. Eep!

I would love to have the chance to see if this product really works and knock off a few bad years. I have his book and I can only afford to read it right now. (I went back to school at 40) I have used Roc Deep Wrinkle Serum for a couple of months and I notice a softening in my skin but the wrinkles around my eyes are still the same. I just finished X-Ray school and I am looking for a job and I think this would be a nice pick me up befor going into the workforce. Thanks, Lori

  2. I have hormonal acne and oily skin with flaky patches. I also have large pores, especially on the cheek area around my nose. I have tried several products, including Clinique Youth Surge SPF 15 Age Decelerating Moisturizer – Combination Oily. I saw a mild improvement in the way my skin looked but nothing great. I would love to try a product like this just to see if it can make an improvement in my skin texture and tone.

I had very oily skin with flaky patches and on top of that i have acne too, i’m tired to try diferent products and no one worked for me i just finished the treatment of proactive=( don’t work, so i really want to try this and see if work for me.

  4. I’ve never really thought much about taking care of my skin, I rarely use moisturizers or exfoliaters and now I’m starting to regret it. I guess when I was in my teens I thought “oh I’ll worry about that later” Now here I am almost 30 and I’m starting to notice wrinkles. I really wish I would have started some type of skin care routine sooner. I am going to be sure and tell my daughter to when she’s in her teens. I think the sooner you start the better off you’ll be. The only thing I’m using now is St. Ives Face Scrub and Clean & Clear Daily Moisturizers. Soon I’m going to look into a line to use but I’m not sure which is best so I’m still reseaching that.

  5. Joanne says:

I’d love a product like this because I have dry skin that complains a lot when products are too rich or drying. Even with my dry skin, however, I have noticeable pores around my nose and it drives me nuts. I also have hyperpigmented cheeks that I’m trying to get rid of but I think they’ve reached a plateau. Something that just started bugging me is the presence of fine lines under my eyes — when did those start?!? All of these problems seem like they would benefit from this product, so I’d love to give it a shot!

  6. Tia says:

I’m 30 years old and I don’t want winkles! The current product I’m using is Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads. It claims to firm and keep winkles at bay. Not sure if it’s doing all that but it makes my skin feel amazing. I actually reviewed the product on my blog today. I would love to try Perricone MD’s products. I have only heard great things about thier products.

I just turned 41 and I have noticed that my freckles on my nose and forhead are starting to look like age spots! For the past couple of years I have been pretty good about hte sunscreen but sometime I get discuraged and dont apply any thinking that the damage has already been done. I have tried everything on my face as far as creams go lancome products shisheido eye creams ( that was my fav) to oli of olay regenerist but with 3 kids expensive eye creams are out of the question. Lately I have tried emu oil (avail in health food stores) which hydrates really well( I have dry skin) but it is really greasy. I would love the chance to try out this product. Thanks

  8. Nina says:

I’d like to try and win this for my mom, and see how it will improve her skin’s uneven tone and texture. It couldn’t hurt to try it on myself, I’d like to see if it will contribute to the improvement of my acne and my scarring. I’ve also tried proactiv but it doesn’t work.

  9. missdenise says:

I have been using clinique’s even better skin tone corrector. I think it works great but I would love to give this a try. I have very uneven skin tone. I have tried everything short of lasers.

  10. Maria says:

I’m 39 and this giveaway is happening at a perfect time for me. I’ve been yearning to find some sort of skin care help. Recently, I was having a conversation with co-workers and I was laughing. joking and smiling! Doesn’t that sound great? All of a sudden, this one guy shouts ” OMG” and quickly walks up closer to me, staring at the outer corner of my eye. Then he says “wow, it really sucks getting older..” I knew he was referring to the laugh lines/crows feet around my eyes. I had recently noticed them too in a photo of myself. At first glance I thought I looked pretty in the photo because my eye makeup looked nice and I had a bright smile. Then I was surprised to see I had these strange lines on the outer corners of my eyes. I don’t like how I look with those lines on my face. Now, I am very self conscious and try not to smile so the lines won’t appear. It makes me sad and I wish I was able to use a product to help lessen these lines. I was never a vain person but this really bothers me.

I work for the postal service and I am outside ALL day. Rain, wind, dirt, hot glaring sun…you get it. After being out in the elements all day (I walk for close to nine miles a day) coming home and washing my face is my TOP priority. Lately I’ve been using the Olay facial line, but I would really like to try something that could help reduce the fine lines I have going on. Trust me…I am fighting a war to keep my skin healthy and would love to see if this could help. Thanks!

  12. Clarissa says:

I would love to win this product! Even thought I’m not yet noticing the signs of aging, I know my skin has had a lot of damage. During the summers and the rest of the year, I spend a lot of time outside and because my skin is tanner, I tend not to wear any sun screen (since I don’t burn easy). Because of this, I know I need to start being proactive, but I haven’t gotten myself to purchase anything yet!! eck! If I won this, I know it would help me to jump start into proper skin care action!

thanks for having this great giveaway!

  13. Tanisha says:

    Hi Francine,

I would like to give this product a try due to the combination skin I have. My face is oily on my forehead, cheeks and chin, I also get dry patches on my nose, forehead and neck. I notice that I have uneven skin color on my forehead and neck. I really didnt have acne as a teen, but now since I have turned the “lovely age” of 30, I get bad breakouts on my cheeks and forehead. I have tried products as of: Neutrogena, Proactive, Anew, Ambi,Cetaphil and Oil of Olay. First it seems as the product is doing its job, but once my skin gets adjusted it no longer works…and back comes the breakouts and patches. Thanks for listening and having this giveaway.

  14. Cassie says:

I am a frequent user of this product, so I would love to win a bottle!!

I totally agree about the Omega 3 smell. However, because the product works so well, I deal with it. My trick is that instead of applying it in the morning, as Dr. Perricone recommends, I use it at night… I can’t smell fishies if I’m asleep!

  15. Dr. Perricone’s products are in a league of their own. I have not used anything that is as responsive as this product line.

When I was 20 years old, I had been using Mary Kay products for 7 years. Then, I got contact dermatitis. After that, I’ve had to be very careful, through trial and error, what my face could tolerate and what would actually do what it was supposed to. I tried Oil of Olay (too greasy), Roc (too harsh) and Avon’s Anew (which I currently use).

Now, 27 years later, I have had to experiment a lot as my skin ages to find something that keeps the wrinkles at bay. I got to experiment with Dr. Perricone’s products from samples given at Bloomies and a kit from QVC. I would love to have some more Perricone and, I know my skin would too.

  16. Steph says:

I have nightmares about looking like Ms. Versace when I’m 50. Looking to start a regiment now that will keep my skin tone even and wrinkles at bay! I’d love to try a free sample of this. I hear Perricone products are worth the money regardless. Thanks for the giveaway!

  17. Nicole says:

I have tried and tried to find something reliable and consistent for my skin. I have chameleon skin (terrible way to put it, but)… it is combination, but it is, of course, much more oily in the warmer months and can be dry in the winter. I am approaching 40 and know that it is getting more and more important to find the *right* thing that will keep my skin balanced and still fight the buggies that want to render it irritated, patched in dry, populated with tiny lines, and threatened by (AK!) wrinkles. I’d love to find the thing that actually works!!! Great contest, and thanks so much for the opportunity.

    (This site is amazing!)

  18. Kim Young says:

Ever since I have moved away from New Orleans, Louisiana. I have not been successful with finding products that suit my skin, in the new climate that I live in. So, please, consider me to win the Firming Activator from Perricone MD.

  19. I consider skin care to be an investment, so I’m one of those people willing to lay down some money on products that I like. There are some lines that get good reviews that do nothing for me (sorry, La Mer!) and other, less expensive lines that have 1 or 2 items that I really appreciate (hello, Kiehl’s). I’ve been wanting to try out Perricone MD’s products since Oprah endorsed them a while ago…but wasn’t in a position to splurge on an entire pricey start-up package. I’d LOVE to try this firming activator… especially since motherhood hasn’t been kind to this grad student. :) Count me in, please! :)

  20. LindaP says:

I have had bad acne since i was 11 yrs old, to this day i cant seem to get rid of the oily skin. With my honey in the miitary, i’ve only been able to afford whats at walmart – i’ve tried olay eye serum, neutrogena anti wrinkle, anti acne cleanser & moisturizer. they haven’t really delivered & i’ve barely seen an improvement. I’ve read about perricone since he came out with the book for acne prone but affording its a diff story. Please submit me for the contest – i would love to try out a luxe product!

  21. Susie says:

Why I need a product like this? Holy crap I’m 54 and everything is hanging. I have never really gotten into skin care of protective sun care until last year.
I’m trying Strivectin right now. I’ve only been using it a few days so the verdict is still out. :)
I would love to try this product.
    :)

  22. Paula says:

I would love to try this product because my skin is in dire need of some serious help. My skin has an uneven skin tone, red acne scars and my skin is just dull. I think a product like this would be amazing for me, seeing as I have tried so many other unsuccessful products. Currently, I’m using Clinque and Dior products, all of which have turned out to be mediocre in results. I’m looking something that will make me hopeful that I can actually have good skin, I’ve read about Perricone MD Advanced Face Firming Activator before and have heard great things about it — so I’m dying to give it a try!

  23. Evy says:

I would like to try it, my skin is really dry and flecky. I have to exfoliate very often because of that. I’ve trying diferent products (Loreal, clinique) and so far I don’t have the results that I need and want. Hope I can try this product. ;)

  24. Tammy F. says:

My skin is looking nicer each day I wear the Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Serum from the Made from Earth skincare line. It did take a few weeks to see the change. My fine lines are disappearing and my skin is smooth and glowing. Also, the Made from Earth Vitamin Firming product lasts a long time, it does not take much to apply all over your face and neck.

    RESULT after 1 month:
Nearly all my saggy neck skin has tightened. plus – I’ve received comments from three different people who commented, “you look great – what have you done to your face and neck!”

I really like it as a face cream too. It smells really nice and goes on easily and absorbs quickly. Soft skin is the result. Love it.

  25. uk ed hardy says:

it’s one thing to rename existing colors and put them in a palette, but it is completely ridiculous to put the same colors from one palette into another palette that is being released so soon after the first! I mean, at least put a year between releases or something!
