Makeup Storage

My makeup has been getting on my nerves lately. I know…for someone like me, a statement like that is rather sacrilege, but it’s the truth. It’s not necessarily my makeup, itself, that has been irritating me. It’s the whole process of how I store it. I decided to nip that problem in the butt. After seeing how QueenBMakeup stores her little pigments in a recent blogtv show, I made the trek to my nearby Lowe’s and did some inexpensive storage hauling. I also nabbed an idea from Nat, a.k.a. natneagle on Youtube, with using a DVD rack to store my palettes in.
Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, let me introduce you to my my makeup storage!!
All my brushes that I use on a regular basis get put in this jar and are set in an easy-to-access corner of my table.
All the rest of my brushes, get shoved in one of four jars in a different not-so-easy-to-access corner of my table.
These items don’t really have a home yet, so I put them in this little plastic basket. This basket along with about 5 others this size and 4 that were a bigger size, are what I used to use to store my makeup in on my table. Eventually, that many baskets + too much makeup = a big disaster and massive headache.
As of right now, this is how I store my pigments. I got these cases with the little jars in them at JoAnn Fabric. They really come in handy when I travel with them cause then I can just grab the whole case and pack it, instead of having to individually pack every single pigment. The 13 pigments in front of the cases are pigments that I don’t have smaller jars for. So that’s their temporary home for now. I’m thinking about getting a nail polish rack like natneagle has, and using that to store my nail polishes and pigments on like she does. Seems like a good idea, but I don’t know. Do you guys have any recommendations for pigment storage?
Here’s the DVD rack I mentioned earlier. MAC palettes fit in them perfectly! And the Kryolan aqua palettes can fit in them as well with minimal maneuvering. You can get these handy dandy little suckers from Target. I can’t quite remember the price but I do remember that it wasn’t over $10.00.
How I store my pencil liners and shadow pencils. I stole this nifty little idea from my MAC store. One cup is for lip liners, and one cup is for eye liners and eye shadow pencils.
While browsing Lowe’s, I saw this nifty little wall rack. The picture on the packaging showed it being used inside a kitchen cabinet to hold cans and other kitchen stuff, but I though it would work on my wall to hold foundations, moisturizers, and other doodads.
This handy dandy little storage unit is all thanks to QueenBMakeup. She showcased it in one of her blogtv shows for how she stores all the mineral makeup she has. I ran out the next day and bought this one! Haha! This unit was about $20.00. As you can see, it has both little drawers and bigger drawers. These storage units come in a couple of different sizes as shown in the next picture.
I bought the previous storage case thinking that would be all I needed, however, the little drawers were a bit too small to fit my makeup how I wanted it. I can be very OCD about stuff like that. So I ran out and got these 2 storage units that have nothing but bigger drawers. One of these units (which comes with 9 drawers) was about $15.00. Lowe’s also carries another type of unit where it has nothing my smaller drawers.
Here’s a pic just to show what and how you can fit into the drawers. I LOVE these things! They freed up a lot of space on my makeup table, which I need. I hate the feeling of clutter or the feeling of not having a lot of work space when I’m doing my makeup and recording videos.
I was so proud of myself for putting these up! Didn’t need any help from the husband at all! I did hit a minor dilemma, however. You know that ever important saying of “measure twice, cut once”? Well, it applies to installing storage units as well. :p
How do you store your makeup? I think my next endeavor to tackle in organization will be how to store my nail polishes. While writing this post, I took a quick break to count up all my nail polishes and came to realize that I have 75 nail polishes, not including base and top coats or nail art polishes. Eep!
I keep mine in an tall dresser and the stuff I use all the time is on my bathroom sink in a big makeup case
First and foremost – THANK YOU for the great shout outs :) I only paid $4.99 for my DVD racks from Target. I bought two of them, but my kids stole one to put DVD’s in. Don’t they understand it’s for makeup!? Sheesh!
I LOVE the wall rack idea for your foundations. The 15 drawer storage unit I have is full and spilling over into a 5 or 6 drawer storage unit from Office Depot. As for the nail polish rack, it’s getting to the point where it’s only holding – what other – nail polish?! I don’t have as many as you (I haven’t counted) but the only pigments up there now are my full sized MAC b/c it’s all it can hold. I actually posted a blog on this too :) It was awhile though and very much needs updated I think! http://tinyurl.com/ygwefz8
I have to say I am very jealous of all that NARS you have :) I am new to NARS and I just want more more more – of that and MUFE. To think…my whole addiction to youtube began with me watching YOUR video to begin with. In conclusion – I totally blame my makeup addiction on YOU :) ROTFLMAO
lol..that’s too funny. And I knew I forgot something!! I meant to post your post about the nail polish rack so peeps could see what I was talking about!
Oh and trust me…I only have 4 Nars single shadows, and maybe 4-5 duo shadows….all of the shadows that were next to them though in the drawer were my MUFE shadows. :) Wanting to build up both of those collections but they’re expensive and MAC keeps coming out with LE stuff. Darn you MAC!! Darn you to heck!! lol :)
And I’m sorry for your loss…of money…because of makeup…and me. lol :D
Awesome organiztion!! I need to clean mine up, i bought alot of makeup over the summer and now its just a big mess! thanks for some ideas! :)
ahh, i love the organization! I’m so glad that you posted about how you store your collection, i LOVE looking at people’s collections. (same with dorm rooms….hmmm maybe im just super excited for a giant makeup collection/college? who knows.) anyways, AWESOME collection, im jealous of all those pigments and palettes!

Hello from Russia!
Can I quote a post “No teme” in your blog with the link to you?
I store most of my stuff in plastic take away containers and plastic beakers. XD
Very nice organization :-) I know how hard it’s to organize makeup when there are so many colors :-)
Keep the posts coming. I like reading your stuff. thanks.
