It’s The Battle Of The Lash!

Ladies and gentlemen….Let’s get ready to RRRUUUUUUMBBBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEE!

CG LashBlast VS. Maybelline Colossal

Sorry. I just had this overwhelming urge to get all dramatic on you guys.

As many of you probably know from my videos, I LOVE Diorshow Mascara. But as much as I love it, I can’t keep affording to fork out $23 a tube every 3 months (if not sooner than that). So I went on a hunt for a new cheaper mascara that I would love as much as my Diorshow. I wanted a good mascara that I could afford and still get the lashes that my Diorshow would give me. I went to my nearest Wally World and spent what seemed like forever looking at all the different mascaras, the different pictures of brushes they had on the packaging and what they claimed to do for my lashes. It’s been so long since I’ve used a drug-store brand mascara that I don’t know what’s good anymore…I don’t even remember what used to be good either.

After about half an hour, I finally settled on two…Cover Girl’s LashBlast mascara and Maybelline’s new Colossal mascara; LashBlash mainly because of its popularity, and Colossal because of the size and shape of the brush. The main reason I loved Diorshow so much was because of the size of the brush. I have big eyes so to have a big brush that will coat my lashes in one shot without having to spend 20 minutes trying to coat one eye really tickles my fancy!

I spent the next ten minutes staring at the two packages, trying to debate on which one I wanted out of the two. Then a light bulb clicked on in my head–just get both. If I liked one more than the other, well, then at least I’d have a back-up for a rainy day.

Since the Colossal is a new mascara I thought it’d be awfully nice of me to do a comparison of the two for you guys that are debating about trying out Maybelline’s new addition to their makeup family. (This is the part where you guys say “Wow! That Francine is great, isn’t she?! She’s so thoughtful and considerate to think of us!” And this is the part where I act humble and say graciously “Oh golly guys! Think nothing of it! It’s no biggie. I just aim to please.”)

I don’t use any lash primer, so whenever I apply my mascara, it’s always on my lashes as is. Also, as a side note, I am using the waterproof LashBlast, so your results may vary.

Parental discretion is advised—eye pornography follows ahead….Here are my big, beautiful, brown eyes completely naked. All pics are clickable.

Two Coat Comparison

As you can see, there’s not really that big of a difference…at least not to me. Maybelline seems to give my lashes a bit more volume and length, but the difference isn’t so huge that I’d swear by this product any more than I would over Cover Girl’s LashBlast.

I will say this much though. Even though the results aren’t too big of a difference, I think I prefer Maybelline’s Colossal mascara over LashBlast. “But Francine, you said yourself there’s no difference…so how can you prefer one over the other??” I can because I say so! Seriously though, I prefer it over LashBlast because of the brush. I’ve come to realize I’m not really a big fan of the whole plastic brush fad. I still plan on using my LashBlast as a back-up or for rainy-days (literally…it’s waterproof, remember?), but I can’t get over that whole plastic brush thingie. I guess I’m just set in my ways. Either way, I’m happy I found a more affordable alternative to my Diorshow mascara!! Time for a happy dance! Happy Happy Joy Joy! (Did I just date myself?)

ren and stimpy! lol its okay, it was a good show.

I love lash blast, it works great for me.

    HI there!

I actually thought that Covergirls mascara looked better. The Maybelline looked a little clumpier…just my observation. Thanks for comparing the two, I also want to spend less on mascara!

Thanks for the comparison. I feel like with Lashblast, my eyelashes feel like plastic rubberyness which isn’t quite my preference. I like how fluttery/soft Colossal feels on my lashes. I wish they had a waterproof. I also like Blinc’s Kiss Me Mascara. It doesn’t budge. I just wish it was more volumizing.

    Thanks for the comparison!

I own LashBlash and I was thinking of trying out the colossal. I think from the pictures, I will definitely stick with my LashBlast. Although Colossal was a bit thicker, I like the fact that LashBlast defines the lashes; Colossal just looks a bit too clumpy.

    btw your blog is awesome!

I love your videos by the way on youtube and I am so happy I found your new website…I was still stuck in the old one :P that you had lol!

With the lashblast, I find that it gives me length but not a lot of volume so next time I will definitely have to try the maybelline one!! :)

“Wow! That Francine is great, isn’t she?! She’s so thoughtful and considerate to think of us!” Well I agree whole heartedly with that statement.
I have the lash blast and have seriously been considering trying the colossal not because I don’t like lash blast but I always wonder if there isn’t something better such is an addicts life I guess. So I think I am going to give the colossal a go. Of course it would help if my lashes were as long as yours to start with. I even got that magic lash fiber stuff it helps but as far as making me look like I have false lashes not so much.
Thanks for the review. Ohh and the Renn and Stimpy reference was awesome lol!

Thanks Francine. You are sooooo amazing and awesome for doing this comparison.

Did I get it right? LOL

I am a DiorShow fan but its too expensive. Gonna check out tis Maybelline one though although I do like CG.

  8. J says:

i think…(after long and tedious over examination) that the colossal looks clumper…so i would hav gone with the cg but i usually use maybelline mascaras..jus preference

  9. jeannie says:

I use the Colossal one, but haven’t tried Lash Blast yet – I guess I don’t really need to!

  10. Johanna says:

Hi, why don’t you use a MAC mascara? I thought I should get myself one, but since the MAC addict herself doesn’t use one… There has to be a reason to it, right?

  11. Maria says:

Thanks Francine!! You are sooo considerate!! I love reading your blog, you are funny and very blunt!! Qualities I definitely appreciate from anyone. Thanks for the comparison, my pocket definitely appreciates it!

Johanna – I tend to not really care for MAC mascaras cause they clump a lot for me. The only mascara I really cared for (that everyone else seemed to hate, ironically enough) was MAC Fibre Rich. I love the stuff. But it still doesn’t do everything I really want my mascaras to do. Now, I am saying all this without having tried Mascara X or Plush Lash. I’ve heard pretty decent reviews on Mascara X but I don’t want to fork over the money in case I don’t like it. :)
